The boundary between technology and music continues to evolve, and Spotify has now taken a significant step toward making that boundary more visible.
Spotify has announced a new “AI Persona” label for artist profiles that are generated through artificial intelligence. The label is expected to begin appearing on selected artist profiles from mid September 2026, giving listeners clearer information about whether the identity behind an artist profile is AI generated.

The announcement is part of Spotify's broader focus on artist identity and trust. According to the platform, the new label is designed specifically to identify an AI generated artist identity, rather than determine whether an individual song was created using AI tools. This distinction is important because a human artist may use AI during parts of the creative process without being an AI generated artist themselves.
Spotify will allow creators to disclose AI generated artist profiles themselves. At the same time, the platform says it will review accounts and give artists an opportunity to appeal an AI designation. Listeners will also eventually have an option to report profiles they believe represent AI generated identities.
The move raises an important question for the music industry: what does being an artist mean when an artist can be entirely digital?
For independent musicians, transparency could become increasingly important as audiences demand to know who is behind the music they discover. Authenticity, ownership, identity, and creative contribution are becoming just as important as streams and visibility.
At SwaLay, we believe technology should expand opportunities for artists without compromising transparency or creative ownership. As the music ecosystem changes, artists who clearly communicate their identity and rights can build stronger relationships with listeners.
Spotify's new label may therefore be more than a badge.
It could be the beginning of a new standard for trust in digital music.
